...For the next seven years Shot Tec was used in our basement alone.
“Generation one: Shot Tec” consisted of metal conduit, an old set of springs and a puck. My two sons used this rough training device I had created, until they eventually wore the springs down to nothing. One thing was certain: The benefits in their game from using this device were non-refutable. I knew it was time to do this right and share it with the entire hockey world.
My name is Darrin Oneschuk. I was born with an incredible passion for hockey and have played the game for 25 years, from Minor Leagues all the way to Junior and Senior leagues. There is no doubt that hockey has significantly contributed to the person I am today. I have learned to “carry my load” in all the life positions I’ve found myself in, such as husband, father, and businessman. I have learned to never give up. When the score is tied, I must compete with a positive attitude and not allow the scoreboard to dictate my effort. Every shift is a new beginning, much like every day.
Today I continue to play for the pure exhilaration of it and I will as long as my body allows. I am now involved in another aspect of hockey as well: Coaching. I believe in using hockey to teach kids life skills. There truly is no greater joy for me than to teach kids respect and hard work, along with the idea of creating positive results for them by making wise choices in a hockey game and then relating it to real life.
The process of creating a marketable version of Shot Tec has been a tangible result of my passion and love for the game of hockey. Hockey has evolved into a game of extremely skilled athletes, dedicated to year-round training, continually looking for any extra edge they can find. I am honored and incredibly excited to offer a solution for all those hockey players that, as my 7-year-old son so aptly put it, “HAVE to score more goals and NEED a better shot.”
